Artist's Comments

Finally got this one cleaned up properly and scanned! Fixed some anatomy issues, added butterfly wings and other details into his cloak. Faeren was far too cutesy in my last piece, so that became my excuse to practice some serious semi-realism on him. And he liked that idea so much he took his tunic off for me (though he kept his cloak, hee). You can see all the plant-like veins on his skin now. Not sure if I want to paint this one or just leave it sketchy linework...heh, maybe I'll do both one of these days! Too much other work to do in the meantime, though. ^_^;;

You can learn more about Faeren on his character profile here: [link] and more about his world and "The Wars of Avenan" storyline here: [link]

As always, this is absolutely gorgeous! I love his expression and the soft curves of his body. Your linework on the cloak and leaves and moss and stuff is gorgeous. So many details! I especially like the addition of the butterfly wings ^__^

I love this a lot. The face is perfect. ;o;
:iconpluffers:
beautiful and highly detailed ^_^

How long does a sketch usually take?
:iconsaimain:
Well, this isn't a sketch, this is quite a bit more cleaned up and refined. I started this back in April, and spent two days working out the first draft. Cleanup and detailing afterward took around eight hours off and on, so maybe three days, altogether?

Thanks. :) I also tried to make the markings on his shoulder blade suggest a butterfly's wing.

oh... I consider a sketch to be any drawing with pencil. And I congratulate you on such dedication! I know I wouldn't spend so much time on one piece.

:iconholycowplz: That is really remarkable through and through and I'm always blown away to the level of detail you operate on! Really breathtaking and inspiring art and I'm once again humbled and impressed! Superb work! :D

Hey, I can see that now, indeed! :) What a nice touch!

Also, is it just me or does Faeren look younger than usual here?

Once again your work is stunning. Faeren's expression is very soft and you did a gorgeous job with all the "plant-like veins". I think I could spend a few hours looking at all the details. :)

(and, funny coincidence, I've been drawing lately one of my characters in the same position showing his back covered with giraffe stains... but Faeren's much better. ^^)

Is Faeren really happy about being so ... BOUND... to nature like that? I mean, he's usually so free and all and just seeing him with vines attached to him makes him so confined.

Also, you rarely draw pictures of Sali or Fenwyn (did I spell that right) anymore now... it's been AGES. XD
